For over two decades self taught Chicago based promotional photographer Joe Arce has captured and crafted the candid images of hundreds of icons and stars of pop culture. His noted self described brand of beyond the glitter celebrity portraiture offers up the viewer a rare and often humorous glimpse of unguarded moments peeking behind the limelit curtain and backstage door. Initially a frustrated guitarist Arce began shooting publicity for local bands and it was'nt long before his camera skills rather than his guitar playing began getting him noticed, granting him unique access to and landing him on the tour buses of his Rock and Roll idols. After a short stint as the senior photographer for Backstage Pass magazine and several tours as a photographer for Lynyrd Skynyrd,he opened his own studio and began shooting fashion starting with the portfolios of the model girlfriends of some of his rock star clients.Next came a national ad campaign for The Alley, Chicago's Alternative Shopping Center, then work with many rising young designers.Soon agencies as far as New York were referring their models to him for testing. Switching his focus to Arts and Entertainment, notably celebrity publicity he became a freelance fixture within the Chicago media as both a still photographer and a writer/associate producer for an independent prime time Chicago Arts and Entertainment weekly. Once referred to as "The Gonzo,in your face Ted Nugent of photography",by none other than Ted Nugent himself,Joe would much rather let his photos speak his thousand words. |
